In remarks prior to accepting the highest honour awarded to Canadian freshwater scientists, Dr. Ray Hesslein, former director of the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA), warned that closure of the ELA would mean “a huge loss to the Canadian public in its ability to protect its fresh waters.”

“I hope there will be a bright future for ELA”, as “A failure to make this transfer work would mean a huge loss to the Canadian public in its ability to protect its fresh waters.”
